Adidas works with PrimaLoft to launch ocean plastic insulation.

Sportswear giant adidas is working with advanced material technology company PrimaLoft to incorporate recycled plastic waste intercepted from remote islands, beaches and coastal communities in its outdoor apparel.

In a statement, PrimaLoft said it was hoping to take its long-standing collaboration with adidas to a new level with the development of “high-performance, sustainably-conscious” adidas products featuring PrimaLoft insulation made with Parley Ocean Plastic.

“Through Adidas Outdoor’s collaboration with world-class brands such as PrimaLoft and Parley, we can serve the next generation of consumers with what they want and need: innovative and sustainable products which perform on the mountain and in the streets,” said Tim Janaway, GM Adidas Outdoor .

PrimaLoft President and CEO Mike Joyce added that adidas “is an innovative, global partner” and PrimaLoft welcomed the opportunity to “strengthen” its established partnership with the sportswear brand.

“Both of our brands are pioneers in their fields and important drivers of innovation in the textile industry, especially when it comes to sustainability,” Joyce explained. “We strongly believe that together we can push the boundaries of material science forward, while continuing to further our ‘Relentlessly Responsible’ mission.”

Last year, PrimaLoft announced a strategic partnership with environmental organisation Parley for the Oceans. As the first insulation provider to partner with Parley, PrimaLoft will take plastic intercepted from remote islands, beaches and coastal communities and use it to manufacture high-performance insulation products.

The new insulation will be showcased at the ISPO Munich exhibition and US-based Outdoor Retailer + Snow Show.
