Tornado warnings for south Alabama; tornado watch continues

Alabama

Tropical Depression 17 has formed in the Gulf, and it has spun up a few possible tornadoes today in southwest Alabama.

There have been several tornado warnings so far today.

A tornado warning is in effect for Choctaw and Clarke counties until 3:30 p.m.:

As of 2:40 p.m. the storm was located about 5 miles south of Coffeeville and was moving north at 30 mph. It is a radar-indicated tornado.

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a tornado watch for several southwest Alabama counties that will be in effect until 4 p.m. Friday.

The Alabama counties in the watch are Baldwin, Choctaw, Clarke, Mobile and Washington.

The watch also includes several counties in southeast Mississippi.

The Storm Prediction Center said a couple of tornadoes will be possible along with isolated damaging wind gusts of 65 mph.

The National Weather Service in Mobile said forecasters expect severe weather to be possible through this afternoon and into tonight.

A threat of flash flooding will continue for parts of southwest Alabama as well, and a flash flood watch is in effect through Saturday evening for Choctaw, Mobile and Washington counties.

Forecasters said the threat could expand north of the coast through this afternoon.

The latest severe weather outlook shows a slight risk for southwest Alabama and a marginal risk farther to the north and east:
